Electric cars now-a-days offer a more efficient, powerful and cost-effective solution to everyday commute, but the initial costs are taking the toll on sales. According to a recent survey, the sales of electric vehicles are not to see any substantial increase
in the next five years, unless there is a sudden spike in the oil prices. Moreover, the gas engines are becoming more and more environment friendly with the day.

The most amazing fact found in the report was the sudden increase in Volt sales in December. Given all the shopping season and whatnot, the Chevy Volt was hit hard by the National Highway Safety over the battery-fire issue. In a report, promulgated in November,
the highway authority stated that the Chevy Volt battery catches fire some time after a crash. The fact became evident in a test crash e=where the car was made subject to a side accident. After three days, car battery caught fire which any fathomable reason.
However, after an extensive research, conducted by GM and the NHS, the reason was sought out.

According to the report, the charge still remains in the battery and catches fire when there is no way around to drain itself out. The company has designed a device to drain out the charge after an accident and the equipment will be offered to fire fighting
departments and car repair shop at the earliest.

Moreover, the company also assured that the fire can erupt immediately after a crash as the charge is not vulnerable to catch fire.

The NHS is still closely monitoring the incident and an official report on safety of the vehicle is still to be announced.
