Taliban kill three cops in Lakki Marwat

In what appeared to be a fresh wave of militancy in the country, the Taliban killed three policemen while injured another in the Shahbazkhel area of Lakki Marwat, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The province has seen a rise in militant activities since the start of the 2012, with the southern parts of the province suffering the impact of these incidents.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Syed Nawaz Marwat while speaking to the media confirmed that three police personnel were killed while another sustained injuries in the attack.

He explained, “Four men were on a routine check when an explosion took place on the opposite side of the road when they reached the stop at Bulandkhel.”

The DSP further stated that militants, in an ambush, opened fire on the security personnel when they got out of their van. In his view, the explosion was tact to distract the concentration.

He observed, “It seems that the explosion was a distraction. Even though our men tried to counter the attack, the militants hid at an intermittent distance and kept on firing.”

Mansoor, the spokesperson of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Shah Hassan Khel, telephoned media persons, claiming the responsibility for the assault. It was in reaction to a search operation where a number of TTP men had been taken into custody, he claimed.

Giving a warning to the security forces, he observed, “If they are not released, we will continue.”

The killed police personnel were identified as Jan Muhammad, Munawwar Khan and Zahid Ullah while the injured was ascertained as Islamuddin.

It is vital to not it here that Shah Hassan Khel was one of the biggest militant training centres prior to the launch of a full-fledged operation by security forces back in 2009.

A suicide bomber allegedly belonging to the same group had struck at a volleyball match in the area on January 1, 2010, killing more than 100 people in Lakki Marvat.
