In what appeared to be a quite known to everyone, Federal Minister for Information Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Saturday said the government will never write a letter to Swiss authorities, saying it will only waste of time.

While speaking to the media after the inauguration ceremony of a sports gala, the federal minister stated that writing a letter would be nothing but the trial of the graves of martyrs.

The Swiss cases had already been declared fake and the decision to not write a letter was final, she categorically said.

In the meantime, she rejected rumors that Pakistan had reopened land or air NATO supply routes, clarifying that this was a perception that has nothing to do with truth.

If the Parliament permitted reopening of NATO supply routes, then the government would do so too, she added.

About talks with Afghan President Hamid Karzai, she said that his concerns on supply routes were only related to school supplies that entered Afghanistan through Pakistan and had been cut off since the consignments were blocked at Karachi.

The minister was also of the opinion that the US congressman Dana Rohrabacher’s resolution pertaining to the independence of Balochistan was an open violation of Pakistan’s territorial unity and had tarnished their sovereignty.

Earlier on the day, Pakistan severely condemned the move by three US lawmakers of tabling a resolution in the House of representative which said the Baloch nation has a historic right of self determination.

Foreign Office termed the resolution ill-informed, expressing the hope that it would not be approved.

Abdul Basit observed, “This is a self-serving attempt on the part of those who are driven by arrogance and ignorance. The bill shows utter disrespect for international norms and practices”.

The resolution moved by Congressman Dana Rohrabacher, a California Republican, said the Baloch people have the right to self-determination and to their own sovereign country; and they should be afforded the opportunity to choose their own status.”

It also noted that in Pakistan, the Baloch people are subjected to violence and extrajudicial killing.
