Ultrabooks! The computing world maybe changing or maybe not but thing is evolving for sure, the thickness of the electronic devices. For better or for worse, the notebooks are getting slimmer and slimmer every day. Though they are mostly priced cheap, they lose some of the productivity in them. But not in the case of Sony’s flagship line of laptops, Vaio.

The Japanese electronics manufacturers unleashed the new version of their ultrabook line named Vaio Z. The original Z was released in the second quarter of 2011 and was more expensive than the one that hit the market recently. Although the successor tows the same line in terms of specs and tradition but it is $500 to $1000 cheaper than its predecessor.

The new Vaio comes in a ultra-thin chassis with more or less everything that populates Intel’s checklist for using the moniker, Ultrabook.

The new Vaio Z starts at $1649 and beefs across the $3000 mark but the features included make it worth the dough shelled out. The laptop ‘itself’ has an HD graphic card that is good at playing 1080p video but as far as gaming goes, it is good for Farmville and likes.

The chassis contains VGA, USB 3.0, HDMI and SD card slots and a battery that churns out juice enough to keep the machine alive for 4 hours.

However, Vaio Z has an ace up its sleeve that surprisingly is included in the initial price. The machine includes a docking station with not only an extra slice battery and extra ports but one state-of-the-art GPU that can play graphic-intensive games on 1,600×900-pixel resolution at 30 fps (frames per second).

The external dock gives another 6 hours of extra time to the Z. The likes of Acer and Dell live up to 5 to 7 hours but due to the absence of an extra dock neither of them touch the milestone of 10 hours of working offered by Apple’s Macbook Air. Vaio Z, on the other hand, gives Air a run for its money.
