Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani will hold a meeting with US President Barrack Obama on Tuesday, March 27, at the sidelines of the Nuclear Security Summit in Seoul, South Korea.

On Friday, the White House confirmed that the duo leaders will hold a meeting to discuss matters of mutual interests.

The statement issued by the White House reads, “The meeting will be an opportunity for the United States and Pakistan to continue high-level consultations on areas of mutual interest. In particular, the President looks forward to reviewing our efforts to support an Afghan-led reconciliation process.”

According to the media reports, the US is also sending its special envoy Marc Grossman to Dushanbe, Tajikistan, for a meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari, who will be there to attend a regional conference on Afghanistan.

Mark Grossman while speaking to the media said that Islamabad and Washington would resume talks about possibly reopening NATO and US supply routes to Afghanistan once the former concludes its debate about new terms of engagement in the war on terror.

The special representative said he respects the proposal of recommendations presented by a Pakistani parliamentary committee asking Islamabad to demand an unconditional apology from Washington before the resumption of NATO supply-line.

About reopening of the supply-route, Grossman said they will be in conversation with Islamabad about how to move ahead, once parliament concludes its work.

Some media reports claimed that Pakistan’s ambassador to the US, Sherry Rehman, will accompany PM Gilani to Seoul to help him in the US-Pakistan talks.

On same day, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton assured Pakistanis that they remain determined to working with them in bringing stability and prosperity in the region.

In her message on Pakistan Day, she asserted, “On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I am delighted to send best wishes to the people of Pakistan as you celebrate the 72nd anniversary of the Lahore Resolution, which laid the foundation for the creation of Pakistan”.

The Secretary of State said they were committed to carry on developmental projects side-by-side, as they want peace and prosperity in Pakistan.

She also extended praise to all professionals working on promotion of tolerance and patience in the society.
