Internet addiction: A hoax now proved to hold staggering truth – Part 2

The concept of emails gave birth to text chatting, which instigated the concept of audio chatting which was closely followed by video communications.

However, that was last century. The new world has new concepts of social networking that simply seems to be irresistible to the human kind, after all human being is a social animal. Where social networks like Facebook, Orkut, Twitter and many others bring people close to each other, it also backs up a very negative activity and that is time spent on the web.

The replacement of dial-up connection with dedicated server line (DSL) aggravated the situation even more. The access became easy and computers became more efficient giving room to more and more features to be offered online. Today, if someone tries to open Facebook on Pentium II processor, it will not work. Same is the case with dial-up connection and Windows 98. The web has evolved, so have protocols and tools like Flash and HTML 5.0.

All these factors have contributed in a more attractive and even more interactive platform, internet. The advent of 3G and its evolution to 4G has help internet-based companies’ cause of bringing more human traffic to their websites and apps on mobile devices.

Even if you hate Facebook or Twitter, or dislike internet, like my father did, you are forced to use all of them due to the constraints at work and/or because the rest of the world is moving too fast that you need to catch-up with them.

Pakistan in particular has been safe from the internet addiction. In its own way, the lack of a strong DSL infrastructure or landline in the first place, and the complete absence of 3G cellular communication technology has saved majority of the public from IAD.
