First hate it then love it– the Google Love Story behind its products – Part 1

Google, Inc. has been running a hot streak or is the one ever success story in the world of technology. The California-based organization has brought us the internet in a whole new dimension, with products that we never knew we needed.

Starting with a search engine, Google has now become a technology giant, a Silicon-Valley goliath that almost has a monopoly over the internet, whether it is the search engine, online textual ads or video streaming. Over the last decade and a half, the company has served the world with a slew of new products from general computing to internet browsing to mobile computing.

However, one thing is common with its projects; they all start on a controversial note, more or less. That might be because of the innovation it brings to its products.

Google has always worked on the mantra that goes deep into its lore, “don’t be evil.” That is the main reason for all the opprobrium it has attracted over the years. Google might have a clean and honest heart put into the works it has done since its founding in 1998, but the privacy issues it has raised during that time has always haunted its goodwill in the market.

In 2004, the company started a project of free email service to the masses. The day was April 1 and marketing pitch included incentives for companies that they could now advertise their products and services in the mail as textual advertisements. Many thought it was an online April’s Fool stunt but the service was actually there to be embraced.

Gmail hit the nerve of the masses, especially with advertisements that it is directed toward, burgeoning the pockets of the rich corporate entities at the expense of the public’s privacy. That actually might have been the case but the innocent Google remained oblivious this cause.
