Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has said the government was determined to root out extremism and militancy from the country, pledging that they wouldn’t allow the militant mindset to endanger the future of their children.

He issued a statement after inquiring health of Malala Yousafzai at the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC).

He noted, “We pledge that enemies of Pakistan will never be allowed to succeed. We pledge that we will uproot this menace of extremism and militancy.”

Referring to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the premier said it was the same outfit who had assassinated Benazir Bhutto three years ago.

Calling for unity against the threat from a bigoted and radicalized mindset, he said such this mentally wants to rob the nation its cherished values of peace, pluralism, moderation, tolerance and passion for knowledge.

In his view, the attack on Malala was not a crime against an individual but a crime against humanity.

He observed, “The nation stood united in condemning the brutality and degradation of those who perpetrated this heinous crime and the poisoned mindset which sought to destroy the country. The extremists attacked Malala because they were scared of the power of her vision.”

The Prime Minister said every Pakistani is praying for the complete recovery of Malala and she is under the best possible care and being treated by the best professionals of the country.

He reaffirmed the government’s resolve to undertake its responsibility for child rights, saying that the government would make all out efforts to protect these rights.

The government, he said, would support the cause of protection and development of children and acknowledged public and private sector organizations rendering services for children’s well being.

Later while talking to a delegation of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), Prime Minister Ashraf said the legal fraternity has always rendered valuable services for supremacy of law and Constitution and played a significant role in restoration and strengthening of democracy in the country.

He urged the lawyers to give their input for improvement of administrative and legal procedures to ensure speedy and affordable justice to the people.
