Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has denied that the outfit had threatened to attack the long march announced for January 14 by Tehreek-e-Minhajul Quran chief Dr Tahirul Qadri.

Earlier, Interior Minister Abdul Rehman Malik had said that Taliban militants have threatened to attack a rally seeking electoral reforms.

He announced, “TTP has threatened to attack the long march,” Malik told reporters in a joint press conference with Qadri. But we will not stop the long march and provide them full security.”

However, the claim of the minister was denied by the militant outfit. TTP spokesperson Ehsanullah Ehsan has rejected the claim. He said, “This is not true, we have not issued any threat to attack the long march. We have no comments for the long march.”

Tahirul Qadri, who returned from Canada after spending five years there, had announced to lead a long march to Islamabad on January 14 if the current government fails to fix the system. The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) decided to join the long march despite being a part of the current setup.

Qadri while speaking to the media vowed he would not waiver from his mission to stage the protest. He stated, “The long march will take place on January 14, God willing, and it will remain peaceful. Our mission is to strengthen democracy and pave the way for free and fair elections as enshrined in the constitution.
