A bomb blast near the office of the Awami National Party in Karachi killed at least 11 people late Friday, police said.

A senior leader of the party Bashir Jan escaped unhurt in the blast. His vehicle was hit and damaged by the device.

Police and hospital sources said that five people died and 40 persons were injured in the blast in Orangi area.

Several shops and vehicles were destroyed and the blast caused damage to several buildings.

Hospital sources said that six children were among the injured. Several injured were registered critical.

The blast created panic in the area and people also protested against the attack.

Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.

It was the second attack on the ANP in Karachi on Friday. An ANP candidate escaped unhurt in an morning bomb attack in Karachi.

On Thursday a bomb attack in Karachi had killed five people.

Taliban claimed responsibility for two bomb attacks on the two ANP candidates in Karachi, which killed and injured dozens of people.

The TTP spokesman, Ehsanullah Ehsan, claimed responsibility in a telephonic call late Friday.

“We have carried out two attacks on the ANP candidates in the morning and Friday night,” he said.

He said that the attacks are part of the Taliban plan to attack the ANP, MQM and PPP for their ‘brutalities they had committed against the oppressed people in the tribal regions, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Karachi and Balochistan’.

“We will with the Grace of Allah Almighty, take revenge revenge of all those killed by the three former coalition partners,” Ehsan said.

He said the three parties are ‘secular and their ideology is contrary to Islam’.

“Let them now face the consequences of their actions,” the TTP spokesman said.

When asked that the Taliban attacks routinely kill and injure common people, he said the Taliban had earlier asked the people to stay away from the election gatherings of the three parties as the parties will under attack.
