Two blasts near the office of MQM in Karachi killed at least two persons and injured 30 others, police and hospital sources said.

The blasts occurred in Aziz Abad area of Karachi and near the office of Mutahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), the MQM spokesman, Wasi Jalil said.

Rickshaw was used for the first blast, police sources said.

Second blast occurred as the rescue teams were busy in shifting the injured to hospitals, police said.

The MQM spokesman, Wasi Jalil, said that several MQM activists were among the injured.

Sources said that the explosives were concealed in a rickshaw which exploded near the MQM office.

When the rescue team, police and media persons arrived at the scene, the second blast occurred, leaving many people injured. Members of the rescue team, police and media persons were also injured.

Dawn TV reported that its cameraman and driver were among the injured.

Preliminary investigation suggested that the second bomb was exploded with the help of a remote-controlled device.

The blasts created panic in the area and the businessmen shut shops. Power supply was also suspended in the area.

Pakistani Taliban Saturday claimed two bomb attacks near the MQM office in Karachi.

Spokesman for the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, Ehsanullah Ehsan, called the media to say that the TTP has carried out the attacks.

“The Saturday’s attacks are the continuation of our target attacks on the MQM, PPP and ANP,” the TTP spokesman said.

Asked as to why the TTP kill children and civilians in these attacks, he said the Taliban had earlier publicly announced to target the three ‘secular parties’ and ‘we do no intentionally target the children and civilians’.

“Why they bring the children to political rallies. We are not but the Pakistan Peoples Party, Awami National Party and MQM would be responsible for civilian casualties,” he said.

Asked as to who are behind the attacks on Jamaat-e-Isalmi candidate in Lower Orakzai tribal region on Saturday and attacks on other parties, the TTP spokesman said he is not aware of these attacks.

“Those should come up with the claims who were behind attacks on other parties,” Ehsan said.

Prime Minister Mir Hazar Khan Khoso has strongly condemned the bomb blasts near the office of MQM in Karachi resulting in injuries to several people, the PM office said.

The Prime Minister directed the concerned authorities to beef up the security measures in order to protect the political leaders, candidates, rallies and the masses. The Prime Minister also directed the concerned authorities to provide best medical treatment to the injured.
