Google’s operating system Android faces challenges in the growing mobile technology – Part 1

Consumer Electronic Show 2012 was anything for Google, Inc. but revolutionizing. The company showed a number of Android operating system-based products at the event staged at Las Vegas, but none of them outshined as a major change. Although the new Sony Xperia S and HD were a big attraction at the show, they were mainly due to the comeback of Sony (formally Sony Ericsson) in the smartphone market.

However, Eric Schmidt, Executive Chairman at Google, refused to accept the fact that Google has created a clutter of smartphones while talking to the media. The chairman insisted that Android has created a market competition and is very successfully playing along with other players on the pitch.

Despite all these claims, the fact remains unchanged that Android’s open source strategy has spurred a competition not only with Apple and Microsoft but also among Android-based smartphones that will be hard to manage in the coming days.

Apple has a simple strategy of conducting business in mobile computing industry. They only offer their signature mobile operating system, iOS, in their flagship smartphones and tablets, iPhones and iPads, in addition to the music player, iPod Touch.

This strategy is very easy to manage in terms of latest versions of operating systems, several applications and numerous updates. Apple only needs to target a select few devices when releasing updates or new versions of iOS. The applications are managed and released only on one platform, the App Store. Music, books and movies are available under the umbrella of iTunes, which is not a difficult task to handle.

Good management of applications has resulted in a spyware-, malware- and virus-free environment on App Store and iTunes. Software runs smoothly and never asks for extra push from processors and internal memory.
