Democracy is the future of Pakistan – Imran Khan

Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) and one of the most popular political leaders of the country, Imran Khan can see a bright side in the political turmoil of Pakistan and said that the age of military rule is over in the country.

Since last six and a half decade, Pakistan has witnessed four different eras where the Army chief has ruled the country. The political analysts all around the world feel that one of the reasons behind the political instability of Pakistan is the interference
of Army in the political affairs.

However, there is another school of thought with a very solid argument that the incompetency of the politicians forced the military to interfere at different times.

Imran feels that because of the happenings of the last ten years and the emergence of the electronic media has created political awareness in the country and now there is a general perception in Pakistan that every institution should remain in its domain.

The Chairman PTI said, "The age of martial law in Pakistan is now permanently over. I think our democracy has evolved. And these entire crises, what has come out [of them] is that the army is no longer prepared to come out in the open."

While talking about the memo-gate scandal, Imran gave credit for the Army for showing patience as some of the clauses in the memorandum were against the national security of Pakistan.

The cricketer turned politician believes that the Army has respected the public opinion; otherwise the present government is without doubt the worst in the political history of the country.

However, he feels that because of a general perception among the masses against military rule has forced the Army to abstain from Martial Law this time round.

“It’s effectively a president asking the United States, to come and help him get rid of the Army hierarchy so that he could serve them better. That’s in effect the memo-gate and normally, the army would have…that would have been enough to take over. I
mean, as it is, there is public outrage against that and so you would’ve had the public backing," he added.
