Taliban deny talks with Karzai government

Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid has denied the claim of the Hamid Karzai led Afghan government that Taliban are ready to negotiate with them and expressed that Taliban have no confidence on the present regime of Afghanistan.

The US and its allies invaded Afghanistan in 2001 in reply to the attack on the World Trade Centre, as Al-Qaida was allegedly involved in the attacks. As a result of this, Taliban government was overthrown in Afghanistan and the US backed Northern Alliance
came to power, under the leadership of Hamid Karzai, who became the President of the country.

However, the US and NATO forces have miserably failed to defeat Taliban, who never gave up and started Guerrilla warfare against the world forces. Even after ten years of America’s invasion of Kabul, more than 80 percent of the country is still under the
direct control of Taliban, who also remain the most popular political force in Afghanistan.

Recently, the US has shown inclination to have a peaceful solution and wants to have dialogue with Taliban. A member of Hamid Karzai’s government, Haji Musa Hotak claims that the Taliban are ready to hold talks with the US as well as the Afghan government.

Hotak claimed, "The Taliban have stopped insisting on talking to the U.S. and not the Afghan government. Now the Taliban are saying they are ready to talk with the Afghan government face to face. They said they will talk to both Americans and the Afghan
government."

However, the Taliban leadership has denied all such claims and have stated that Taliban are ready to talk to the US only if it evacuates Afghanistan but they do not plan to talk to the present rulers of Kabul at any cost.

"The Islamic Emirate strongly rejects his words that we have talked with his careless administration and we do not have a plan to talk with President Karzai’s administration," Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid expressed in a statement.

The US has announced that it will evacuate the region by 2014 and it remains to be seen that what political developments take place before the US exit.
