Asus unleashes its new Android-based tablet, the Eee Pad Transformer Prime

AsusTek, Inc. has been going places of late with cutting-edge gadgets. The technology giants first startled the world earlier this year with technically smart and efficient tablet Eee Pad Transformer and then with an ultra-slim laptop, Zenbook UX31.

In a latest conference, the company unleashed a new tech marvel, a descendant to the Transformer, named Eee Pad Transformer Prime. Although the slate only has an addition of ‘Prime’ to its name, it has more under the hood.

But first off with Prime’s appearance. The new tablet is a looker with an aluminium chassis that comes in four varieties of skin colours, Amethyst Gray and Purple, Champagne Gold and Silver, and chromic ASUS embossed in rear.

The new slate is 0.33 inches thick or thin for that matter and is a mere 1.29 lbs in weight, giving an overall mesmerizing look and feel when held in hands. It is thinner and lighter than its counterpart from Apple, the iPad 2.

However, the thin structure should not misguide for a low-end circuitry. Like the name refers to children’s animated character from Transformers, Optimus Prime, there is more than meets the eye.

The slim frame has a massive Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core CPU with 1 GB RAM inside. Asus’ signature soundcard, SonicMaster is nestled inside the motherboard for Hi-Fi tunes. There is a 1.2 megapixel camera on the front side for video chatting over the internet.
The rear-end has an 8 mega-pixel camera that is capable of capturing 1080p full HD motion picture with continuous flash LED light nested adjacent to . The camera has an f2.4 aperture matching the iPhone 4S’ advanced camera technology.

The Active Matrix LED screen has a 1280 x 800 resolution that gives a razor sharp video. The screen and the casing are both water proof and oil proof, that will resist fingerprints stains on the device.

Asus claimed at the launch that Prime’s touch response has been improved by 100 percent, which will make it easier to navigate through Android Honeycomb 3.2 OS and web contents.

WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1, micro-SD card slot, USB 2.0 and micro-HDMi ports come with the device. It also includes gyro-sensor, G-sensor and GPS. The optional dock that converts it into a graceful laptop, more like the UX31, has an extra USB port
and an SD card slot.

The company stated that the new slate will surpass the milestone of 12-hour battery time set by iPad 2 and when attached to the dock, it might set a new benchmark of a whopping 18-hour battery time. However, this claim is still subject to a test, which will
only be possible when the product hits the market in December.

The 32 GB model comes at $499 and the 64 GB is stamped with a price tag of $599. The optional dock is available for only $149 from any Asus store upon Prime’s launch.
