Google Chrome arrives at Android-based tablets and smartphones: Though late but with a lot of potential – Part 1

In September 2008, Google made ??what then seemed a strange move, launch of a browser for PCs called Chrome. After the Mac version Google began its work into the world of software. Shortly following the browser, Google launched Chrome OS that was not a big success for netbooks. However, its other mobile operating system Android made a huge success in the world of smartphones and tablets.

Its performance was very similar to Firefox, which then was defying the Almighty Internet Explorer, from Microsoft. Chrome was minimalist and streamlined, managed each tab as a unit by giving it robustness, a concept that was imitated by competitors in latter years.

According to StatCounter, in January Chrome was the second most used browser with a 28% share. The leader was Explorer with 37%. At third position was Firefox with 24%, followed by Safari, Apple’s native Internet browser, with 6% and Opera, with just under 2%.

Three and a half years later, Sundar Pichai, Google vice president in charge of Chrome and its various applications, announced that the company has developed the mobile version of the browser and from January 9 Chrome is available on Android, both on smartphones and tablets. However, dueto the high specification requirements, it is restricted to Samsung Galaxy S and Nexus and tablets Motorola Xoom and Asus Transformer Prime.

As is customary in the browser, Chrome launched beta, as it is called, after a series of test versions of programs, a common way to detect any problems and ask users to send suggestions for improvement.

Pichar highlighted the restrictions that Chrome can only be used on Android 4.0, more commonly known as Ice Cream Sandwich.
