Jim Clark makes his way back into the US elite, net worth reaches a billion dollar – Part 2

Since Microsoft’s Internet Explorer gouged a big market share from Netscape in the late 90s and early 2000s, the company went into frizzle. Clark however, has been working on the codes for different software and iPhone’s iOS platform is one of his favourites. According to him, the iPhone is a romantic amalgamation of Apple’s software and NeXt’s hardware technology.

Clark has always stated that the acquisition of NeXt by Apple, then struggling company, was the best that could happen to the world of technology at that time. The world, as we see it today, would have never been so advanced, had Apple not made the move to bring Jobs back into the fold. The world will always be indebted to his work in the field of both personal and mobile computing.

“Well into programming [the iPhone], I realized tremendous value from their acquisition of NeXT,” he said. “It’s very hard to explain to people who don’t program, but the object-oriented programming system made programming the Mac and iPhone so easy.”

He realized in 2009 that no other company could ever beat the iPhone’s cutting-edge technology, much less Jobs vision and sense of simplicity. He start investing in Apple voraciously and pulled back his stack in the likes of Blackberry and Palm (a handheld manufacturer).

“I had a huge shorting against Blackberry,” he says, adding that other companies he shorted included Nokia, Sony Ericsson (now Sony) and Motorola. Clark calls Windows’ attempt to break into the phone industry “brain-dead.”
