The new iPad: Reason why the iPad 2 is still the better choice – Part 2

The iPad 2 still remains one of the lightest and slimmest devices in the market at 1.33 lb (WiFi) and 1.35 lb (WiFi + 3G). On the other hand, the new iPad packs more muscles at the expense of its weight which is 1.44 lb (WiFi) and 1.46 lb (WiFi + 4G).

However, the weight is not the only issue that concerns those who shifted from the iPad 2 to the third generation version. The new slate comes a little fatter as well. Last year’s model was 0.346 inches in depth and while this year’s model is a bit thicker with 0.37 inches deep chassis.

Although the new device is only a hair’s breadth fatter than its predecessor, the difference counts every penny of your money when it comes to the casings that you purchase with iPad 2 last year, it does not fit. So does the over-the-screen cover that first came with the iPad 2. You definitely have to buy a new one for this device.

Moreover, the price has been kept the same. Many experts had speculated prior to the launch of the new iPad that its price will be lowered to compete with the likes of Amazon’s Kindle Fire and Barnes & Nobel’s Nook Tablet. However, that is not the case as demonstrated by Apple. The new iPad comes in six different denominations, divided into two categories, WiFi-only and 4G + WiFi.

The base model starts at $499 with only WiFi and 16 GB of storage. Double the storage and you have to pay another 100 bucks for it. The 64 GB model (WiFi-only) comes at the price of $599. If you want to enjoy the fast LTE 4G wireless internet connectivity, add $129 to aforementioned models.
