In addition, the voice recognition system has been jazzed up to come at par with the competition on various fronts. It will be able to launch applications, making reservations at restaurants and create call reminders. It is also integrated with the new turn-by-turn navigation system that Apple developed, replacing Google Maps. Furthermore, the new OS will be able to store and access tickets to events, a passive reply to Android’s NFC-based Google Wallet.

Also social networking has been pumped up to spread its legs into the OS. Facebook is now integrated into the iOS. It is now linked to contacts and live notifications, et cetera.

However, the hardware of the upcoming iPhone is still behind curtains. If Apple adds NFC chip and/or a better camera to the new handset, what changes will these additions bring is still a blur.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

Google I/O 2012 was by far the most successful event by Google and well received event in the month of June. The company released two new products, Google Nexus 7, a $199 quad-core tablet and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Part of the warm reception was the release of Samsung Galaxy Nexus with the new operating system. Everyone can get a hand on the new OS. The only thing foggy in the whole context is the features it will have with new hardware in the upcoming Android-based handsets.

Google Now was the dominant feature of the OS. The voice recognition system goes an extra mile in mesmerising the public. Not only can it interpret a vast pool of queries but can now anticipate the user’s needs. For example, it probes into the handset’s GPS coordinates to suggest the owner on a meeting in the area, even if it is not added in the schedule or reminder.
