Imran Khan slams Fazlur Rehman for creating hurdles in peace-march

Slamming Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan has said they created hurdles for his peace march but ultimately failed to do so.

Addressing a press conference, the cricketer-turned-politician expressed content over his party’s peace rally which tried to march into Waziristan to protest against US drone strikes.

He said that turning back from the Waziristan border was not a failure as he himself did not want the participants to be in the area at night.

The former captain stated, “Fear was instilled among the participants. First it was said that there will be six suicide blasts, and then the number was raised to nine. There were even rumors that the drinking water in Waziristan has been poisoned.”

He was of the opinion that it would have given a worse impression of the region if any unfortunate incident had happened during the rally.

He insisted that his march was a success and whole the world was now speaking against the drones, adding that his march was stopped by the military because it was too late to enter South Waziristan.

He said hurdles were created to stop the march from proceedings toward Waziristan by Maulana Fazlur Rehman and the government.

Khan noted, “The Pakistani government is covertly allowing the drone attacks in the tribal region. My convoy was welcomed by thousands of tribesmen in Tank and Dera Ismael Khan as they had evacuated South Waziristan due to military operation.”

Khan also narrated the story of a drone attack victim whose son was killed in a strike and his family was injured.

A friend of the boy who was killed, who was studying electrical engineering at Khan’s Namal University, went to Ghaznavi and carried out a suicide blast against the US, Khan added telling how drones end up making more terrorists.

Replying to a query he said that he had never changed his stance on MQM chief Altaf Hussain and he had told the Scotland Yard police whatever he had to tell.

He said that Maulana Fazlur Rehman was a right-hand man of President Asif Ali Zardari and was making fortune just like he did in Musharraf’s regime.

He thanked all rally participants, his party workers, journalists and the tribal people, saying that this was the first time anyone had gone to the tribal areas to ask about the people.
