Stressing over importance of the Kalabagh dam, nuclear scientist and chief of Tehrik-e-Tahafuz Pakistan (TTP) Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan on Saturday said construction of Kala Bagh Dam has become imperative at this critical juncture when country is facing acute shortage of electricity.

During an interview with a private TV channel, the father of the Pakistan atomic program expressed dissatisfaction over Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s responses, saying that those condemning the dam are unaware of its importance.

Replying to a query, he said elections are very important to bring political change in the country and the process will sweep away corrupt elements.

The renowned nuclear scientist said the governments of Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa should not oppose to construction of the dam which would make the two provinces more prosperous. He said the country would get rid from IMF and stand on its own feet if the Kalabagh Dam was built.

Earlier, he Lahore High Court (LHC) on November 29 ordered the federal government to construct the Kalabagh dam. The court directed the government in light of the decisions of the Council of Common Interests (CCI) to construct the dam and fulfill its responsibilities under Article 154 of the Constitution.

Resultantly, the province of Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have expressed their displeasure over the decision of Lahore High Court (LHC) that orders the federal government to construct Kalabagh dam, saying they wouldn’t allow for the contentious project.

In the latest development, the Sindh Assembly on approved a condemnation resolution against construction of Kalabagh Dam and political leaders’ statements in its favor.

The resolution stated, “This house condemns the construction of controversial Kalabagh Dam and recommends the federal government to abandon this project once for all. This is a dead horse which could not become alive.”

PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif and PTI chief Imran Khan have said that the project shouldn’t initiate with taking all stakeholders onboard over the issue.

I fully agree with Dr.A.Q.Khan about construction of Kala Bagh Dam. The construction of the Dam is absolutely essential for the economic development of Pakistan. It will generate cheap electricity for our industry and agriculture. The water which is now being wasted by falling in the sea will be saved and will be available for our agriculture,Those who are opposing its construction are not serving any interest of the country.
