No need of military; Difa-e-Pakistan Council will defend Pakistan

‘Will you defend Pakistan’, this query was clearly peps us at the official website of Difa-e-Pakistan Council (DPC). So what does the DPC want? The ostensible reason for coming together is to defend Pakistan.

At the time, we should eliminate our security forces, as the DPC is capable enough to save the country.

The newly forced coalition with a mission to defend the country is populated by the likes of former ISI chief Hamid Gul, former military chief Gen (Retd) Mirza Aslam Baig and politicians like Ijazul Haq and Sheikh Rasheed.

However, the star attraction of this group which comprises some 40 parties and organizations is the entry of banned outfits. Hafiz Saeed, the founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Ameer of JamaatudDawa (JuD) claims that they will save the country.

Maulana Samiul Haq, Malik Ishaq, Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman Khalil, Liaqat Baloch, Munawar Hasan, Allama Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi and Ahmad Ludhyanwi were among other prominent names of the grand alliance.

In its official website, the DPC share it vision, “We envisage defending Pakistan, the only ideological nation carved in the name of Islam with our wealth and Lives. Pakistan stands as the beacon of unity of Ummah, on “La Ilaha Ilallah” (There is no God but ALLAH), the bedrock of our faith.”

The coalition, which has held rallies in the cities of Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan and Karachi since late last year, is unusual in bringing an intense dislike of India and anger at the United States onto the same platform.

Pakistan’s relations with the two states have always been linked with military that has traditionally sought American support to help it stand up to India.

The coalition is the stronghold of the religious parties aligned with jihadi non-state actors created in the past by the state and its agencies to fight covert wars in India and Afghanistan. Interestingly, they once again come together to save the country from internal and external forces.

Since there is a strong stink of establishment behind the council blitz, it is quite possible that certain strong elements within it are signaling their own preferred option in foreign policy against America and India.

Pakistan is losing its grip in the face of forces it once unleashed to advance its foreign policy. The quicker it realizes this and takes corrective action, the better for it.
