Thursday, January 19th, 2012 12:21:01 by

Last year brought a host of new smartphones to the market with mega-pixel cameras and dual-core processors. Android released its new edition of the mobile operating system Android, the Ice Cream Sandwich and Microsoft brought an update to the Windows Phone 7, the 7.5 Mango. Apple made news with its new iOS 5 on the iPhone 4S.

However, most of the new gadgetry these days is expensive brings load on the wallet. The LTE handsets and tablets give all what is needed on the go but they are expensive at the same time. The holiday season is over and majority has exhausted the money to purchase gadgets as gifts. The only option left if someone wants to purchase a new cell phone is to go for an inexpensive option.

Although a host of new smartphones fall in the category of expensive handsets, due to competition and deeper penetration into the products lines, many companies also address the less costly categories.

Here are some options that a buyer can avail to fulfil the need of a smartphone without going big on the pocket.

1. Nokia Lumia 710

The phone was launched by Nokia as comeback to the smartphone business but due to its inexpensive price tag, it has created a ripple in the market.

The $49.99 Nokia Lumia 710 is an excellent way to get the growing capabilities of a Windows Mango smartphone for a rock-bottom price. Though it isn’t an Android superphone with a luscious AMOLED display, it’s a practical device that covers all the mobile bases.

2. ZTE Warp

The Chinese telecommunication giant took a leap into the world of smartphones last year. The already saturated market did not spare mercy on the Android-based handsets.

However, Warp was a breakthrough for ZTE and its launch in the US market has been comparatively successful.

The ZTE Warp offers a solid Android Gingerbread experience, rich call quality, and a conservative design, all for an affordable $199 on Boost Mobile’s prepaid, no-contract cellular service.

cellular service.

1.       Pantech Pocket

The smartphone with a bigger screen than most of its peers in the market gives a look of a Personal Digital Assistant without the need of stylus. It gives a flamboyant look in hand.

An intriguing design, user-friendly take on Android, and a reliable camera make the Pantech Pocket an interesting choice for AT&T. It also has 4G HSPA+ speeds.

Although the camera does not offer a HD quality video but it is worth the money paid. The video playback and the call quality could have been better.

2.       HTC Wildfire

The Android-based smartphone from the Taiwanese company is one strong contender for the money paid. It gives much more than what is paid. Sound quality is good and HTC Sense is the icing on decent specs.

The HTC Wildfire S is a beautifully built Android 2.3 Gingerbread handset with a decent 5-megapixel camera and lots of additional software features.

With a decent camera the phone can still capture 720p HS video and the call quality is nice for amount shelled out.

3.       Samsung Focus Flash

For the diminutive amount paid for a Windows Phone handset, the phone directly competes with HTC Titan, which falls in the expensive phones’ category.

The Samsung Focus Flash offers excellent value for its modest price, with a zippy 1.4GHz processor, two cameras, and a vivid screen.

For a price under $200, the OLED screen with higher resolution than Titan, the phone is quickly becoming the first choice for the users who want to embrace a Windows Phone 7 with the latest Mango update.
