Which one out of the slew of ultra-thin laptops should you buy? – Part 1

The technology world saw a boom last year, in terms of efficiency and effectiveness and the masses saw substantial changes in both personal and mobile computing. Where smartphones and tablets made their way to the market with a huge bang, laptops were not an exception.

Apple released its first ultra-thin laptop, Macbook Air in 2007 but the competitors took to competition a little late but that does not matter as the market is still developing in stark contrast with tablets and smartphones.

Last year, Acer, Asus, Toshiba and Lenovo plunged into the competition with their extremely thin devices but they all were less-than-competitive to Macbook Air. However, the start of 2012 saw a slew of new slim laptops that have either arrived or are soon to reach the shelves.

Intel also announced their moniker of Ultrabook, designated to those devices that meet their set standards for a slim laptop. While most of the slim notebooks managed to attain the certification from the Silicon goliath, many could not for one reason or the other. However, that does not fend the customers to purchase those thin devices. They still boast most of the technology, including the thickness, that the certified Ultrabooks offer.

Before you buy, however, remember that with the one-two punch of Windows 8and Intel’s next-gen Ivy Bridge CPUs waiting in the wings (although probably not until the second half of the year), all the ultrabooks available right now are in a sense transitional products.
