Imran Khan and his peace march to Waziristan

Imran Khan, chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, has once again attained attention of media – local and international – by making a strange move; a peace march to Waziristan.

According to the recent reports, IK’s popularity graph has significantly gone down. It is because of the inclusion of some old horses in the party. A few of them have also left him too.

In such circumstances, IK was badly in need of something like peace march to take his popularity to the peak. A lot of media-persons and politicians have called it a drama.

Doesn’t IK have the right to gain popularity? He heads a political party, and it is his right to make every move to enhance support. At every traffic signal, we see huge portraits of Chief Minister Punjab, Mian Shahbaz Sharif, saying that he has done plenty
for the public.

Similar is the case with Pakistan Peoples Party. Chief Minister Singh Qaim Ali Shah is using a huge amount of money to advertise what his government has done in the last four years.

They should not use tax money for their advertisement, but as far as the rules of business are concerned, each and every party has the right to show what they got. This is what IK has done in Waziristan.

Ahead of leaving for tribal areas, Imran clearly mentioned that he was going to highlight the issues. The fresh articles in American and British newspapers are enough to show that he has succeeded in mission.

Many of Imran’s opponents questioned his march by saying that what is the purpose of this gathering, when it will have no influence on America’s terrorism policy. US forces will not stop sending drones just after a little march.

There is no logic behind this point. Ireland, Bangladesh and other minnows were expected to be beaten in the recent World T20 Championship; so, they should not come to play. It means that if you are likely to face defeat, you should not play.

At least an effort should be made, and this is what IK did at Waziristan. You may have differences with IK, but if he is doing something that has never been done before, one should at least give him some credit.
