Paperless Environment: Is it really the time to bid farewell to paper? – Part 1

The chances of the existence of paper are getting paper-slim.

The invention, whose origins can be found in the early 8^th century Chinese culture, has been tipped at the brink of extinction from existence for the last three to four decades. The main reason, technological innovations and inventions of the modern era.

It was the early 70s, when some technology experts spurred the ideology of a paper-less environment due to the massive advancements in computing. However, the notion could only find the dust as the world moved on ignoring it as one of the impossibilities that rise which conspiracies.

Then came the Microsoft and Apple era in the 80s and sprung the personal computing, inoculating the households with semi-conductor-run lives. The PCs and Mac penetrated to almost every house in the West and in the last decade and a half, the whole world has fallen victim to the digital life.

The advent of internet was not a help in the cause to save the phylum of paper that has many uses other than books and registers. The world slowly became a global village and paper had little to do with it.

Then Steve Jobs took a stab at the dying breed of paper with a series of devices like the iPhone and iPad. These have however, posed a serious threat to the life of Pax Papyra, the invention of the Roman Empire. The tablets and smartphones are slowly replacing books, notebooks, registers and diaries for that matter.

However, inventions like the iPad are not going to end the almost 1260-year-long era of paper. But the notion that it is start of paper’s long lasting end cannot be disregarded. This means that the futuristic movies like Avatar and Back to the Future Part 2 have some substance in them. This means that Marty might be paying the taxi its fare with a thumb impression, though the taxi won’t be flying. I think that technology has to wait for its turn till we are fed up with fiddling with the life of our long friend, paper.
