TTP threatens to attack Imran Khan

In quite an unexpected development, the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on Wednesday threatened Imran Khan, the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) against a planned march to Waziristan to protest US drone attacks.

TTP spokesperson Ahsanullah Ahsan while speaking to Associated Press said that they would attack the former cricketer, who is a greatest opponent of war against terror, because he called himself a liberal.

The threat was a surprise for everyone as the PTI chief and TTP share their opposition to US spy attacks in the tribal belt.

Furthermore, the former captain has demonstrates his religiosity publicly, praying in front of the crowd at his rallies and public gathering.

The spokesperson was of the opinion that they didn’t want the assistance of the PTI in opposing the campaign of drone strikes.

He asserted, “We will not accept help or sympathy from any infidel. We can fight on our own with the help of God”.

The cricketer-turned-politician, earlier in July, had announced to lead thousands of people in a march to Waziristan in September to record protest against the US attacks. There wasn’t any immediate response from PTI over the recent development.

He has described himself as a liberal in various TV interviews, but he has also made clear that he is a practicing Muslim.

Imran Khan, who is the founder of the PTI, has gained momentum over the last year after more than a decade in politics. He is perhaps the most famous person in Pakistan because he led the country’s cricket team to victory in the 1992 World Cup.

The spokesperson said, “The Taliban considered anyone who participates in elections, even Islamist parties, as infidels and will target them. The election process is part of a secular system,” said Ahsan. ”We want an Islamic system and will create hurdles to secularism”.

Pakistan army had launched a major operation against the local Taliban in South Waziristan in 2009 and claimed to have largely cleared the area. However militants regularly launch attacks in the region.
