Apple releases iPhone 5 boasting a bigger screen, supporting 4G LTE – Part 1

Apple finally brought the new iPhone out of the hides at an event in San Francisco, California on September 12. The much rumoured and long-anticipated handset covers almost all the expected upgrades and additions.

The new iPhone, though technically is the sixth generation of the device, is officially called the iPhone 5, instead of new iPhone like the new iPad 2012. The major changes are physical form factor, screen and better network capabilities. Apple claimed that the new phone is the thinnest handset ever. However, that moniker changes hands every other month.

In addition to the dimensions, the iPhone 5 comes pre-equipped with iOS 6 and all its goodies.

During the last one year, the iPhone 5 was surrounded by a number of telltales like a bigger screen, smaller dock connector, faster processor and above all 4G LTE connectivity. The phone has hit all the spots on these ones. One more feature that was on the wish list was near-field communication chip, the rumour of which was fuelled by the new Passbook app in the iOS 6, is not in the spec-sheet.

On the front side there is an all-new 4-inch screen with IPS panel in 16:9 ratio. Apple has done a marvellous job in keeping the basic aesthetics of the screen unchanged like width of the screen and the handset, thereafter. Moreover, the new screen technology has also boosted the brightness. Apple claims that the new vivid display now has 44 percent more colour saturation than the 4S. The taller screen now has five rows of icons instead of four, with an additional dock with quick launch icons of call, messaging, music and Safari. The resolution remains the same at 1,136×640, with pixel density of 326 ppi, still Retina Display.
