US Senator proposes complete suspension of Pakistani aid

Wednesday, May 30th, 2012 12:05:40 by

In order to further pressurize Islamabad, US Senator Rand Paul urged the United States to suspend all aid to Pakistan until Islamabad overturned Dr. Shakeel Afridi’s sentence.

According to the media reports, the lawmaker also proposed the American administration to grant US citizenship to the doctor who was imprisoned for helping hunt down Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad.

Earlier, the US lawmakers urged the Congress to cut or freeze some portion of aid to Pakistan following a tribal court sentenced CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) spy Shakeel Afridi to 33 years in prison on charges of treason and helping banned outfits.

Republican Senator Paul proposed going further by suspending all assistance to Pakistan until Afridi’s sentence is overturned by Islamabad.

In a statement the Senator observed, “Pakistan must understand that they are choosing the wrong side. Islamabad accused Dr. Afridi of working against them, but he was simply helping the US capture the head of Al-Qaeda. Surely Pakistan is not linking their interests with those of an international terrorist organization”.

He also pledged to introduce a bill to the Senate in the coming week. Under the Article 1 of the American Constitution, the Congress has the right to set a uniform rule of naturalization, but it is unusual in modern times for lawmakers to consider citizenship for individuals other than honorary titles.

According to the US claims, it has provided more than $18 billion to Pakistan since the September 11, 2001 attacks when Islamabad agreed to turn against Afghanistan’s Taliban and vowed to support the US in the war against terrorism.

The American administration blamed Pakistan’s powerful military and intelligence agencies for supporting extremists. Their concerns had been reinforced when American Special Forces captured and killed Al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden on May 02 2011, in Abbottabad.

US President Barack Obama has also voiced impatience with Islamabad, refusing to hold substantive talks with President Asif Ali Zardari at a two-day Nato summit in Chicago.

It was a reaction from the US as Islamabad has not reopened land route for US forces battling in Afghanistan.

Actually US can’t cut that s_itt off. How can then it justify its presence in Pakistan. USAID offices will need to roll-off. Dr. Shakeel Afridi bribed through USAID assistance. US is building a 7-storied embassy building in Islamabad. Tallest and Largest embassy in Islamabad and largest and tallest of all US embassy offices in the world. Do they also reduce at while they cut-off the aid? I urgue US to please go ahead shut off the aid supply immediately. If Pak wants to survive, it should ban US officers/ambassadors to visit Pakistan. World does not need US, but US needs the world.

I used to support Ron and Rand Paul up until reading this news. This is unacceptable that they believe Pakistan is not an ally. We have suffered a great deal due to terrorism and not only do they discredit it, they portray Pakistan as an enemy. Though what the doctor did may have resulted in the death of a very bad person, he should have first gone to Pakistani authorities. Rand Paul, you just lost a valuable supporter. You also bring disgrace to your father who I believe, is a better man.
    Sincerely,
    TRUE PAKISTANI

Thank you Mr. Rand Paul. You might have said that to pressurize Pakistan or to score some brownie points with your administration, but thte turth is, Pakistan needs all its aid to be cut off immediately! Only then can this nation stand on its own feet. Just like it started doing after independence, but alas, all this aid plagued its ability to self-sustain. Thanks to the decision makers (aka corrupt politicians) this country has. I love you Pakistan. I hate you Mr. Foreign Aid.
