Nokia Lumia 900: Full Review (2012) – Part 4

Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth are standards, though sadly, the Lumia 900 ships with Bluetooth 2.1, practically antique compared with the new Bluetooth 4.0 standard we’re starting to see in mobile devices.

Nokia boasts that its 8-megapixel camera on the Lumia 900 has Carl Zeiss optics, which, along with its dual-LED flash and autofocus, are meant to boost image clarity. As with all smartphone cameras I’ve tested, the Lumia 900 did best in outdoor shots with abundant natural lighting. Also, like all the camera phones I tested, photos ran the gamut of excellent and very sharp to slightly fuzzy and disappointing.

Though the picture quality was a little compromised in colour saturation, the brightness is amazing, the black is really black giving a realistic sensation, while the green is so bright it might look odd in the picture. But one can live with that.

The camera however, struggled to focus on the distant objects and the outlines were a little shaky and smudged because of the lack of focus. The blur however, goes away as the object comes nearer and nearer.

The still photography of the nearer objects was amazing although background was a little fuzzy. The shutter speed is not a strong suit of the Lumia 900. It may take some time for you to get used to the shutter lag. However, compared to a slew of smartphones in the market, it is still in the middle lane. The fastest shutter speed comes in the HTC One X that takes a whopper in 16-mega pixels in just 0.7 seconds.
