However, Dell’s status quo has changed in the laptop and desktop business of late. Their ranking has slipped to 4th company in desktop and laptop makers and their annual earning accounted for only 10.7 percent of the market, down from 12.1 percent a year ago.

That is mainly due to the advent of the new tablet culture, where Apple and Google products dominate the marketplace. It is the mainstay of iPads and Transformer Primes but these slates are invading the PC territory as well. Ultrabooks have been inflicted with intensive blows by these devices. Moreover, the companies involved in tablet devices are taking the technology mainstream.

Dell is also planning to release Windows 8 tablets upon the operating system’s release, however, that will not be their main product line. The company recently spend $60 Billion in a venture fund devoted to storage, Dell’s eye-candy of late.

“It’s an enormous opportunity,” Dell said. “Storage has been a huge area for us.”

Enterprise solutions are not a new domain to Dell, however. The company has been in the business for a long time and the US and China are their biggest markets. Almost 60 percent of China’s internet infrastructure runs of Dell’s servers and networking routers, et cetera.

China is the biggest market outside of China, Dell claimed, but the slowing down growth is becoming a big problem for them, it the situation is becoming a conundrum for everybody else in the world.
